The Bishops of the Church in Wales condemn Anti-Semitism
The bishops of the Church in Wales condemn unreservedly the recent attacks on the Jewish people across the UK. Anti-Semitism has no place within our society and goes against the two great biblical commandments to love God and to love our neighbour.
We are proud to be part of a nation which welcomed Jews as they fled persecution in Nazi Germany and which continues to offer sanctuary to others fleeing war and violence.
At a recent inter-faith event in Cardiff’s Temple of Peace ahead of the Senedd elections, a statement was signed by religious leaders of all the main faiths here in Wales which said: “We pray and long for a nation where all may flourish and none need fear; a nation built on the foundational principles of human dignity and the right to share equitably in the commonwealth irrespective of religious affiliation, gender, ethnicity, and economic status. We hear the cries of the poor and the marginalised and reject all calls to hatred and dehumanisation.”
We stand by these principles and are committed to upholding them, not least in relation to our Jewish sisters and brothers living in Wales.
