New First Minister statement by the Archbishop

On behalf of the Church in Wales, I congratulate Rhun ap Iorwerth as he becomes Wales’ next First Minister, and I offer my good wishes to those forming the new Welsh Government.

Leadership in public life calls for patience, humility and courage, particularly at a time when many people are anxious about the future and looking for hope and stability. I pray that the new administration will seek to build trust across communities and work for the wellbeing of all people in Wales.

Healthy democratic life depends on the willingness to listen carefully, and to pursue the shared good of our nation together. The Church in Wales assures Rhun ap Iorwerth and all those taking on ministerial responsibility of our prayers as they begin this new chapter in the life of our nation.
