Eglwys Glanogwen: 170th anniversary events

Eglwys Glanogwen in Bethesda is marking its 170th anniversary with a programme of community events across May and June 2026.
The programme brings together fundraising, music, local history and storytelling, with activities taking place at the church and involving local performers and speakers.
The church stands within the Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales UNESCO World Heritage Site, reflecting the area’s industrial and social history and its strong religious traditions.
The anniversary comes as the church has secured a £5,000 CHERISH grant from the National Churches Trust. The funding will enable a full feasibility study to assess repairs and future development of the building. This includes exploring how the space can continue to support worship while also accommodating wider community and cultural use. Areas under consideration include improved accessibility, new facilities such as a kitchen and toilets, and options for using different parts of the building at the same time.
