Bangor Cathedral to host Windrush commemoration service

A Windrush commemoration service will take place at Bangor Cathedral on Sunday 21 June at 11am.

The service will recognise the courage, resilience and contribution of the Windrush Generation, and the thousands of Caribbean people who travelled to Britain after the Second World War to help rebuild the country.

It will also acknowledge the injustice faced by many people affected by the Windrush scandal, including those wrongly denied work, housing, healthcare and the right to remain in the UK.

For Wales, and particularly Gwynedd, these links form part of a much longer shared history. For more than three centuries, connections between Wales and the Caribbean have shaped both communities. The Pennants of Penrhyn Castle were among the largest landowners in Jamaica, while wealth generated there contributed to developments in Wales.
