Archbishop Andrew represents Church in Wales at National Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony
Statement from Archbishop Andrew John
"Gatherings at this year’s Holocaust Memorial Ceremonies will have particular significance. It is 80 years since Auschwitz-Birkenau was liberated from Nazi control and 30 years since the genocide in Srebrenica. Survivors and their families will play a particular part in remembering both the terrible events and the courage of those who endured them.
And our gatherings are significant occasions for each of us too. We are conscious that war and conflict continue to dominate the international landscape. We appear either incapable or unwilling to learn lessons from the suffering inflicted on so many and to take the hard and painful path of learning what justice and peace means for our world. Recalling these times might cause us all to pause afresh and to ponder how to make a lasting legacy of memorial, a source of hope for our own future."
