Food Lockers unveiled for St Asaph Cathedral

New food lockers containing high quality, ultra-processed-free meals, at affordable prices, have been installed next door to St Asaph Cathedral.
The food-collection concept will allow customers to pre-order their requirements from Shotton based Well-Fed and collect the meals at their convenience from the secure, refrigerated lockers in the car park next to the Cathedral.
It is the first set of standalone Well-Fed lockers to be installed in Wales. Last year, trial lockers were opened outside the company’s kitchen and offices in Deeside.
The business and administration officer for St Asaph Cathedral, Jackie Feak, who organised the installation, said: “We’ve been working with Well-Fed to find ways to enable more people to benefit from the convenience and ease of these delicious, wholesome nutritious meals. The lockers are available 24/7 in the car park next to the Cathedral and the meals will remain chilled until collection.
“We know that many people in St Asaph and surrounding areas have busy lives and these lockers will help people pick up healthy food on the way home from the school run, after a long day at work or in preparation for the weekend.”
The director of Well-Fed, Robbie Davison said: “We’re really excited to be launching the lockers next to St Asaph Cathedral. It’s part of an initiative to make St Asaph a Good Food City which aims to create a sustainable, equitable, and healthy food system where nutritious, locally sourced food is affordable and accessible to all residents.”
The creation of a Good Food City usually involves collaboration between city councils, community groups, and local businesses to create a, “thriving sustainable, fair city for everyone.” Similar projects are already underway in Liverpool, Bristol and Bradford.
Robbie added: “To order meals for collection from the lockers, please visit www.meallocker.shop to register an account with us, and then order meals directly for collection.”
Last year, St Asaph Cathedral hosted a conference for Well-Fed on The Future of Food and Why it Matters. It brought together decision-makers, frontline workers and people passionate about improving food systems for everyone, regardless of income.
Next week, St Asaph Cathedral will host the Annual Royal Maundy Service, with Their Majesties The King and Queen in attendance. Recipients from across Wales and neighbouring Church of England diocese have been selected to receive Maundy Money, which is given in recognition of outstanding Christian service.
St Asaph Cathedral is the UK’s smallest ancient Cathedral. The current building dates from the fourteenth century and was instrumental in the preservation of the Welsh language. It displays an original copy of the William Morgan Bible which dates from 1588.
St Asaph Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of St Asaph, one of the six Bishops of the Church in Wales, an autonomous Province of the worldwide Anglican Communion.
