Martyn’s Law (Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025)
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law, received Royal Assent in April 2025. The legislation will introduce new requirements to improve public safety and preparedness in publicly accessible premises, including places of worship.
The Act is not yet in force. Further detail on how and when its provisions will be implemented is expected in due course.
In the meantime, the Church in Wales is adopting the guidance produced by the Church of England on public safety in churches: Safety and security in church buildings | The Church of England We encourage all churches to follow this guidance to support safe and welcoming environments.
We will provide further information and specific guidance for churches in Wales once the Act comes into force and the requirements are fully confirmed.
