Role Title: Chaplain to the Archbishop of Wales
Stipend: This is a stipendiary role with housing provided
Location: Bishopstow, Newport
Role Purpose
The Archbishop is elected from amongst the six serving diocesan bishops in Wales. The most recent election was in July 2025 when the current Bishop of Monmouth was elected as Archbishop. She continues to serve as Bishop of Monmouth and is supported by a Chaplain, an Executive Assistant and a Public Affairs Advisor.
The essence of the role is to support the Archbishop in theological, liturgical and pastoral matters relating to her ministry in the diocese, the province and across the Anglican communion.
The role includes being Focal Minister/Pioneer Priest for the equivalent of two days a week (including Sunday duties) at one of the churches, St John’s, in the Tredegar Park MA. Please see the profile in this application pack.

- Strong pastoral and liturgical skills
- A sense of call to a ministry which is more about providing support than exercising a leadership role
- A commitment to the highest levels of confidentiality
- Strong and proven organisations skills
- Ability to work under pressure and be proactive when time is less pressured
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to excellence
- In priests’ orders in the Church in Wales or a church in communion with it
- If not a confident in the medium of Welsh, a willingness to learn to use liturgical Welsh and to undertake Welsh language tuition
- A willingness to work with the structures of the Church in Wales and the Diocese of Monmouth
- An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales
Desirable
- Experience of using SharePoint as a file repository system
