Definitions

Deprivation in Wales is measured through the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD). It is designed to identify the small areas of Wales that are the most deprived. The measure takes into account a variety of types of deprivation, combining them to give a measure of relative poverty. The WIMD ranks all small areas in Wales from 1 (most deprived) to 1,909 (least deprived).

In the maps shown here, areas coloured red have WIMD ranks of between 1 and 95 - the 5% most deprived small areas in Wales. Areas coloured orange are in the 10% most deprived areas (ranks 96 to 191) and those coloured yellow are in the 20% most deprived areas (ranks 192 to 382).

The figures for church related activities are based on data for 2018 and 2019. However, the data gathering exercise for 2019, which took place in 2020, was seriously interrupted by the pandemic, and it is not complete. The data will be replaced with more contemporary information as soon as it becomes available.

The Ministry Area of West Cardiff has an Electoral Roll of 441 (2018: 455) (0.7% of the Ministry Area), including 108 (104) families.

302 (2018: 300) people attend on Sundays, as well as 123 (170) children and young people (0.7% of the Ministry Area).

Of the children and young people, 66 (84) are younger than 7, 40 (69) are aged between 7 and 11, and 17 (17) are between 11 and 18.

During the week, 39 (45) people attend, as well as 34 (55) children and young people (0.1% of the Ministry Area).

Of the children and young people attending groups midweek, 10 (0) are younger than 7, 24 (23) are aged between 7 and 11, and 0 (32) are between 11 and 18.

In 2019, there were:

  • 89 baptisms (83 aged under 7; 3 aged between 7 and 11; 3 aged over 11); in 2018, 80 baptisms (74 aged under 7; 3 aged between 7 and 11; 3 aged over 11),
  • 39 confirmations, 10 in 2018,
  • 18 weddings, 20 in 2018, and
  • 194 funerals (of which 123 were conducted in CiW churches), 232 funerals (100 in CiW churches) in 2018.

On Easter Sunday 2019, 503 people (0.8% of the Ministry Area), took Communion. In 2018 it was 638 people.
