Definitions

Deprivation in Wales is measured through the Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (WIMD). It is designed to identify the small areas of Wales that are the most deprived. The measure takes into account a variety of types of deprivation, combining them to give a measure of relative poverty. The WIMD ranks all small areas in Wales from 1 (most deprived) to 1,909 (least deprived).

In the maps shown here, areas coloured red have WIMD ranks of between 1 and 95 - the 5% most deprived small areas in Wales. Areas coloured orange are in the 10% most deprived areas (ranks 96 to 191) and those coloured yellow are in the 20% most deprived areas (ranks 192 to 382).

The figures for church related activities are based on data for 2018 and 2019. However, the data gathering exercise for 2019, which took place in 2020, was seriously interrupted by the pandemic, and it is not complete. The data will be replaced with more contemporary information as soon as it becomes available.

The Ministry Area of Cynon Uchaf has an Electoral Roll of 279 (2018: 464) (1.1% of the Ministry Area), including 38 (57) families.

183 (2018: 272) people attend on Sundays, as well as 96 (88) children and young people (1.1% of the Ministry Area).

Of the children and young people, 24 (23) are younger than 7, 54 (47) are aged between 7 and 11, and 18 (18) are between 11 and 18.

During the week, 12 (45) people attend, as well as 38 (117) children and young people (0.2% of the Ministry Area).

Of the children and young people attending groups midweek, 5 (23) are younger than 7, 7 (54) are aged between 7 and 11, and 26 (40) are between 11 and 18.

In 2019, there were:

  • 81 baptisms (26 aged under 7; 35 aged between 7 and 11; 20 aged over 11); in 2018, 82 baptisms (31 aged under 7; 21 aged between 7 and 11; 30 aged over 11),
  • 71 confirmations, 76 in 2018,
  • 11 weddings, 21 in 2018, and
  • 92 funerals (of which 24 were conducted in CiW churches), 130 funerals (32 in CiW churches) in 2018.

On Easter Sunday 2019, 273 people (1% of the Ministry Area), took Communion. In 2018 it was 436 people.
