Incremental Scale
Given the anticipated travel associated with the post the post holder will also receive a monthly car allowance.
Location: Home based but involving extensive travel around South and mid-Wales and beyond
Contract: Permanent
Reporting to: Property Manager (Churches)
Hours of Work: Full time (34.75 hours per week)
Job Purpose
This post forms part of the Property Services Department of the Representative Body.
Closed Churches are the responsibility of the Representative Body as overall owner.
The postholder will manage the closed churches assigned to them to ensure they do not represent undue risks to the public and to achieve a positive outcome for the building in the future.
Each of the four Property Officers is likely to be assigned around 25 closed churches at any one time.
As part of the Churches and Heritage team, the Property Officer will carry out property inspections and co-ordinate repairs, manage the church closure process alongside colleagues in the Dioceses, help identify a future plan for each of the closed (and closing) church buildings, and carry out associated administrative tasks such as ensuring compliance with legislation, certifying invoices for payment, and report writing – as well as other tasks and duties as required.
Person Specification
Essential
- A resilient self-starter with the ability to work alone and unsupervised but in close contact with line managers.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the diplomacy necessary to deal with sensitive and sometimes controversial matters.
- Excellent communicator both written and oral with the ability to deliver reports.
- Good IT skills with the ability to use computer software packages including Word, Excel, and E-mail
- Well organised but with the flexibility necessary to manage planned projects and emergency situations.
- Experience of working through democratically organised procedures e.g. committee and board systems.
- The work covers a large geographical area so the post holder must hold a current driving licence and have the ability to work remotely including from home when required. Some overnight stays may be required.
- An empathy with the mission and ministry of the Church in Wales
