Charities Charity and charitable giving are essential parts of any Christian community's life and mission, and, in the Parish of Llwynderw, we work to support a number of local, national, and international good causes. Approximately 10% of our typical annual expenditure is allocated to this area, which does not include the money raised from a variety of special fund-raising events and collections that are held regularly throughout each year. The 'big name' projects and charities that we support include:
More locally, Llwynderw gives to the Bishop's Emergency Fund, Cyrenians Cymru, the Swansea & Brecon Diocesan Fund for Social Responsibility, Llangasty Retreat House, Longfields Association, Swansea Centre for Deaf People, and Ty Olwen Hospice. Our Acorns group has also raised fantastic sums for Christian Aid and WaterAid. Donations In round numbers, it costs £215 per day to run and maintain our two churches. That's over £100 per day per church, about £3,300 per month per church, and £39,600 per year per church. That makes a grand total of some £79,000 per year to keep the doors of Clyne Chapel and Holy Cross open, and this figure rises every year with inflation - anyone who can't quite believe this sum may report to the PCC Treasurer for a more detailed breakdown! Obviously, a lot of this money is used in charitable giving, in maintaining our churches and their grounds, and in paying the 'Parish Share' (our contribution to the Diocese towards the cost of clergy stipends and pensions). A further summary of the issues surrounding church finance, published by the Church of England but nevertheless applicable to the Church in Wales, may be found at: http://www.cofe.anglican.org/info/funding Put simply, our principal source of money is our congregation. If the generosity of our members and friends does not allow us to balance our figures, our churches will close. Most people who attend church services regularly offer fantastic contributions to our collections and, mindful of the fact that our expenditure must increase annually, are careful to review their giving on a regular basis. For those who do not attend services regularly, however, or even for those who do but prefer a less public way of offering money than the collection plate, donations made directly from bank accounts are equally welcome. These may take the form of a one-off lump sum or a regular standing order, both of which are easy to Gift Aid. In fact, regular standing orders are particularly helpful, because, once they are established, they offer a steady source of income even when the donor cannot always attend church.
