Six years later the interior was completely changed by the installation of the High
Altar and massive reredos from the Capel-y-Ffin Monastery near Llanthony, founded
in the 19th century by Fr Ignatius. He was one of the characters of recent Church
history and he did much to foster the revival of the Religious Life in the Church
of England. Fr Cottrell agreed to buy the reredos from the Abbot of Prinknash for
about £125 - it originally cost £2,500. It had been made for the Capel-y-Ffin community
in Munich to a design by H F Webber. It was before this altar that one of the monks
had a vision of the Blessed Sacrament.
