A plaque on the outside window acknowledges that it was built 'through the generosity of Mrs William Cernffydd Oakley of Plas Tan y Bwlch, Maentwrog' in 1858. The East window depicts the Crucifixion and various bible scenes from Jesus life as described in Acts and St Luke. The centre south nave window depicts the Angel Gabriel and The Virgin Mary with a dove of peace. The north nave window depicts, in one panel, Christ going forth to sow and in the other as the Good Shepherd.

The church is dedicated to St. Twrog a 6th century saint. A church has stood on theis site since that time.
Legend has is that Twrog threw a huge stone from the top of the Moelwyn mountains to destroy a pagan altar down on the valley floor. This stone stands beside the church (by the belfry door) to this day. It is said that a hand imprint of the Saint can be seen on this stone.
The present church was built in 1814 and later extended with a chancel and baptistery. New stained glass windows were installed in 1896 with the effort and help of William Edward Oakley of Plas Tan y Bwlch.
The present organ was installed at that time along with 8 tubular bells. The West window commemorates Edmwnd Prys the Rector from 1572-1624 who meticulously translated the psalms into Welsh. He is buried beneath the altar. The oak carvings were executed by Mary Oakley of Plas Tan y Bwlch.
