Somewhere to visit

Location:  Llanywern, near Brecon
OS Reference: SO102286

The first church on this site was built in the 6th century and for many years it served as a chapel of ease for St John´s Priory, Brecon, now Brecon Cathedral. The current building dates from the 14th century, with a 13th century font. Windows date from the 19th century. The building was extensively repaired in 2004, following a dedicated effort by parishioners who secured funds from CADW, the Heritage Lottery Fund and funds raised by parishioners. Services are usually held monthly and the church can be found open whenever you visit. Around the church is an undisturbed hamlet of three farms of the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries. This Church features in the book, “Wales’s Best One Hundred Churches” (Timothy Hughes, ISBN: 9781854114266, published 2007)
