DIOCESE OF SWANSEA AND BRECON
NEW DEAN APPOINTED FOR BRECON CATHEDRAL
The bishop of Swansea and Brecon, the Right Revd John Davies has appointed the current Rector of Wrexham, the Revd Canon Geoffrey Marshall to be the next Dean of Brecon Cathedral.
The Revd Canon Marshall was born in Denbigh, but moved away with his parents at a young age. Educated at Repton and Durham University, he trained for the priesthood at Mirfield. The new Dean spent his gap year assisting in the founding of the charity Shelter UK.
Ordained in 1973, he served at Waltham Cross, Digswell and Belper before spending seven years as Vicar of Spondon near Derby. In that diocese he served as Rural Dean, Diocesan Warden of Ordinands before becoming Canon Residentary and Sub Dean of Derby Cathedral.
Married to Hazel, who is a schoolteacher, they have three grown up children, Clare, Sarah and Michael. The new Dean has led many pilgrimages to the Middle East and is looking forward to walking the peaks of the Brecon Beacons.
The Revd Canon Marshall states,' I am really pleased about my new position and look forward to my work in the cathedral, its churches and am delighted to be able to serve the people of Brecon and the surrounding areas.'
The newly appointed Dean will be installed at Brecon Cathedral on Saturday September13th.
