The Church is able to
reclaim tax from donations/gifts made under the gift
aid scheme.
Please
contac the treasurer
"Due to its charitable
status St Mary's can reclaim tax on gifts made under
the Gift Aid scheme. If you pay tax in the UK, Gift
Aid is a simple way to increase the value of your
gift to St Mary's. Making your donation using Gift
Aid will enable St Mary's to reclaim the basic rate
tax on your gift to them. At present this
means that if you give £10 to St Mary's using
Gift Aid , the gift becomes worth £12.82. (In
2008 the amount to be reclaimed will be reduced due
to the proposed reduction in basic rate Income Tax).
Subject to a few rules, you can give any amount, large
or small, regular or one-off and St Mary's can reclaim
the tax.
Please note however
that you must have paid or pay total tax in the relevant
year of an equivalent
amount to the tax reclaimed by St Mary's and/or
all other charities to whom you give gifts under the
Gift
Aid scheme.
If you are a higher
rate taxpayer, you can claim relief on the difference
between the basic
rate and higher rate of tax.
If you do not pay
tax, you should not use Gift Aid. For further information
