Bishop John visits St Paul's, Sketty
Confirmation Service on 11th December 2011
Twelve candidates were confirmed, and one candidate re-affirmed her faith at St Paul's, Sketty on Sunday 11th December 2011. At the rehearsal, Vicar Andrew (Rev Canon Chancellor Andrew Knight) suggested 'on the day, form an orderly queue...' and one candidate was 'conditionally' baptised as part of her preparation.
On 'the day' Bishop John encouraged the parish that in all we do and say and think together, we don't become uniform and monochrome but seek unity and to be rooted in Jesus Christ whose birth we will soon celebrate, of whom John the Baptist said he would not even presume to tie up his shoe laces. The celebration continued at the Parish Centre after the service with a special cake. Bishop John's special message to the candidates encouraged them to let the day be a step on the journey, and to let their promises stay with them so day by day they measure their lives against the pattern we have been given.
