Consents

Faculty procedures apply to churchyards as well as churches for certain works or permissions. For example, the erection of a non-standard memorial or the reservation of grave space. Alterations to buildings within a churchyard that are separate from the church, may also require planning permission and listed building consent in addition to a faculty.

Providing the standard specification for headstones as stated in the Constitution is adhered to, only the consent of the incumbent will be required for their erection. See the Gravestones section for more information.

Any works to trees in the churchyard require the consent of the Archdeacon and may in certain cases, require consultation with the local planning authority, especially if they are covered by a tree preservation order.
