Arrangements for the sale of a redundant Church are made by the Property Department of the Representative Body of the Church in Wales, who will seek to dispose of the building for the best value. Distribution of the proceeds of any sale are governed by the Church Sales Regulations of the Constitution which can be found in Volume II Section 2 Part 4: Regulations Governing the Application of the Proceeds of Sales of Churches, Church Sites and Churchyards
In summary, after costs of sale, net proceeds can be made available to parishes to adapt or provide another place of worship. 10% of the proceeds are retained by the Representative Body to help defray the costs of unsaleable redundant churches and sites.
Occasionally, churches (or parts of churches) may be let out (eg. on a rental agreement) to third parties. Any parishes considering this option for their church buildings should get in touch with the Property Department.
