All Church in Wales’ churches require a five-yearly inspection known as a “Quinquennial Inspection”. The inspection is arranged through the Diocesan Churches and Pastoral Committee (CPC) who liaise with Parishes to arrange a suitable date and time for the inspection to take place. The CPC is also responsible for the payment of fees to the Quinquennial Inspector and the maintenance of an up-to-date list of suitably qualified architects and building surveyors to carry out the inspection.
The Inspectors work to a standard brief and are expected to produce a report based on this within a set time agreed by the CPC. The report contains an overall assessment of the condition of the church and a list of recommendations for any work that needs carrying out within the next five years.
