Mothering Sunday 2011

First Communions an' all that

What a wonderful morning we had! A church packed with people - again - and 8 young people admitted to Holy Communion for the first time. During the service they were for the first time nourished with the food of the Holy Eucharist.

They had been prepared for this wonderful occasion by their Sunday School teacher Mrs Mary Girling (not the Vicar) and we made sure she had a big clap! This is part (just part) of our lay ministry in the parish of St Mellons.

Sunday School children read the scriptures and did incredibly well - a few proud parents around with wet eyes I think? The hymns I hope suited the Mothering Sunday and family theme.

Before the liturgy began prayer Sunday School teachers had a chance to stand up and explain their work. Children had made prayer cards which they gave out. Also flowers were given out and (yes) God is alive and kicking!

Sorry no photos - someone forgot!
