Tal-y-Waun in the rain!
And didn't it rain???
A group of people were in the Vicarage the other day planning for "Back to Church Sunday". True to form I'd been thinking inside the box. Then some said that in our publicity material we should say things about all our activities inc the Parish Walks. Cos we're all Christians when we walk together and we learn a lot about one another.
Anyway on August 15th we decided to go on a walk in the Tal-y-Waun area, and if you have to ask where Tal-y-Waun is well God bless you! Why said place? Well one of our number who now lives in Cardiff and worships at St Mellons hails from this area.
Off we set through Newport, round Cwmbran and Griffithstown and up "Bob a Day" to the Big Arch. Why these names? Well when they built the road the workers were paid a shilling a day and up the top there's an arch through to the old iron works and its big.

We parked next to the old St Thomas's Church and set off in the rain - it was comin down like 'orizontal stair rods. Up the mountain we went, past umpteen industrial relics and an old reservoir (res-uh-voy) to have our coffee under the shelter of a tree. Then it was the downward trek to Tal-y-Waun and very wet we was. But was we appy? Yes actually we were and good company was enjoyed by all.

At the end of the walk some had to get off to filial visits and some found a hostelry - The Rising Sun in Victoria Village where we enjoyed an excellent welcome and meal.
Yes God's people had a good and healthy time together walking the hills of home
