School Family Eucharist Feb 2010#1

The Preparation

Once a term (usually at the end of the first half term) Class 4 (Ys 5&6) prepare a school eucharist. Sometimes it has been in St Dyfrig's Parish Church, sometimes in St Mellons BUT, more often than not, in the school hall - which then becomes our school church.

They are very clever people and often do it themselves. What happens is that I give them a topic and they, with Mrs Price, do the planning. I just turn up. This time I decided to do the initial session with them. Here is a photo of me in front of the class:

First we had to learn what the three themes of Sundays Before Lent are:

Septuagesima: Creation

Sexagesima: Fall

Quinquagesima: Redemption

Our theme was to be Sexagesima - Fall. First we had to learn what it meant before we could convey the meaning to others in songs - readings - prayers. This is a photo of me showing the categories of prayer and how they could fit into our theme. (by the way the OHP is all my own work - I do learn from the teachers)

Next it was questions and then a hasty retreat before the children began their work. I will just turn up to the service and they will hand me their list that they have prepared under very good leadership. Did you think that Y5/Y6 were more than capable of coping with liturgy and some of the things I learnt when I was a student? Well done.
