Choral Evensong May 14 - 2009
Kings College eat your hearts out .....
On Thursday May 14th - the Feast Day of St Matthias - children (and teachers) from the Junior Department sang Evensong at St Woolos Cathedral, Newport. They were originally scheduled for January but there was a blizzard! This time it rained, but not too badly.
The children had been rehearsed by Mrs Price who directed them and Mrs Kellen who accompanied on the cathedral organ. The music consisted of two hymns; verses and reponses; the Magnificat and Nunc Dimmitus and an anthem. Most of the music had been selected by the assistant organist, Mr Chris Denton, but the anthem "Fairest Lord Jesus" and the hymns had been chosen by Mrs Price and Mrs Kellen. Two Bible readings (including some quite difficult words) were excellently read by Huw Hudson-Davies and James Howlett.
Both Mrs Price and Mrs Kellen must have worked very hard as the quality of singing was was wonderful - not to say angelic. Also the concentration was writ large on their faces. I was very proud and quite moved. I even bought bubble bath for Mrs Price and Mrs Kellen from the Cathedral shop. It cost me £1.50 altogether.

The children were well supported by their proud parents, some parishioners from St Mellons and some Governors.
Well done and thank you. Oh - thanks also to Canon Keith Denison for leading the service and Cathedral parishioners for providing refreshments afterwards.
David Kellen
