 Admissions Policy

1          PREAMBLE:

This statement and the rules made herein are made under the provisions of the Education Acts and in accordance with the instrument of Government of Bishop Childs Church in Wales School.

 

2          CLASS NUMBERS:

 

            The total number of pupils admitted to a class in any academic year is 30, as agreed by the Governors, after consultation with the Local Authority.

 

3          CASUAL ADMISSIONS:

 

            Where an existing class is already full no new admissions will take place until a place becomes available. If there is more than one application for such a place the criteria below will be applied.

 

4          RELIGIOUS EDUCATION:

 

            Religious Education and worship takes place according to the denominational teaching and practice of the Church in Wales. Applications are received on the strict understanding that parents accept full participation in such denominational teaching and worship by their children. 

 

5          CRITERIA UPON WHICH THE GOVERNORS WILL ADMIT PUPILS TO THE SCHOOL:

 

5.1       Generally all children whose parents wish them to attend this school, subject to the provisions of the Education Acts, will be enabled to do so PROVIDED THE NUMBER SEEKING ADMISSION DOES NOT EXCEED THE ACCOMMODATION AVAILABLE.

 

5.2              If the number of applications does exceed the agreed number Governors will admit children to the school in the following order of priority:

 

a.i        Those children directed by the Local Education Authority AND

 

a.ii    Where Governors believe that, in their opinion, exceptional medical or social conditions appertain (evidence from a medical practitioner will be expected)

 

b          Children who are baptised and whose parents are active and habitual worshippers/communicants at St Mellons Parish Church

 

c          Children who are baptised and whose parents are active and habitual worshippers at the Church of the Resurrection, St Mellons.

 

d          Children who are baptised and whose parents are active and habitual worshippers /communicants at Parish Churches in neighbouring parishes.

 

e          Children whose parents are active and regular worshippers at a place of worship of another Christian denomination.

 

f           Children who already have a brother or sister at the school and whose brother/sister will still be a registered pupil when the new pupil is admitted.

 

g          The proximity of the pupil’s home to the school.

 

6          FORMS OF APPLICATION:

 

            Forms of application may be obtained from the Headteacher or the Clerk to the Governors (putting your child’s name down on a list does not imply acceptance at the school).

 

7          NOTIFICATION:

 

            The Governors will notify parents of the outcome of their application.

 

8          APPEALS

 

            Should an application be unsuccessful parents have the right of appeal and must forward their appeal to the Clerk to the Governors following the instructions on the notification.

Notes for guidance – these are intended for guidance only and are NOT part of the Admissions Policy

 

  • The total number of children the Governors are allowed to admit to a class is 30
  • Bishop Childs School does not regard itself as exclusive. Provided the number of applications does not exceed 30 all can be admitted (see 5.1)
  • If the applications exceed 30 the Governors must admit according to the published priority in the Admissions Policy
  • If you believe there are particular medical or social circumstances the Governors should consider it is in your interests to provide evidence
  • If you attend Church or Chapel it is in your interests to get a reference from your Parish Priest/Minister or Church Official – please make sure you take it to him/her
