Viva Espana!

Alan and Sheila Linegar generously hosted a Spanish Night at their house to raise money for St Mary's.

spanish night 1

The evening began with a glass or two of Cava, or orange juice, or both together, with some tasty nibbles including Sheila's excellent Almendras al pimenton - paprika almonds.  A quiz on all things Hispanic occupied us as we waited for the main show... and what a main show!

spanish night 2

The first course saw us presented with a wide variety of hot and cold tapas, which alone could have sufficed for a light meal.  Then the main act of the main show.  Many of the group had pollo - chicken - served with Spanish-influenced trimmings, and I have to say it looked delicious.  The rest of us had this.

paella

What more can I say?  Alan it was una paella estupenda, deliciosa, exquisita.

Desserts came in typical Spanish mode - they like their postres -   especially the one they call simply flan, which is a richer version of the French creme caramel.  There was also a lovely Tarta de Santiago - a sort of Spanish Bakewell tart with more almonds, and an apricot concoction, as well as sorbet, or else cheese.

Muchas gracias to you both for your generosity and all the hard work you put in to making this not just a fabulous feast but a happy social occasion.  AND we raised an amazing £350 for St. Mary's Lighting Fund!
