St Fagans Parish Outing
This took place on Saturday 14th August. Here are a few photos - more to follow, plus a report all being well!
Two of the historic buildings, many of which were moved brick by brick from their original location to be rebuilt at the museum site.
The next few show the interior of the reconstructed St Teilo's church, originally located at Llandeilo Tal-y-bont. The murals were either copied from traces of those found in the original building or were painted in the period style.
The picture below shows the reconstructed Rood Screen. The guide told us that some people involved in the restoration are depicted in the painting behind the Rood - some more flatteringly than others!
Below the series of saints are bosses, one of which is illustrated here. Some of them are traditional images, such as the Lamb and Flag. There is also a pagan symbol, the Green Man, and there are modern interpretations as well, such as the one shown - which is depicting none other than Archbishop Rowan Williams!
This image is one of the examples copied from an existing painting. It depicts graphically and imaginitively Christ being mocked.
This picture shows a general view of the interior.
The "Team photo" outside the Plymouth Arms, where we had an excellent lunch (with real ale served for those of us who like that kind of thing!)
