Angela Ford Memorial Walk 2010
A lovely walk through the countryside around Tintern was enjoyed by all who attended. Here is my personal photographic record - hope you enjoy it! Ruth, website so-ordinator.
First the "team photo" outside the Wye Valley Hotel - except that young James decided that, as a "dinosaur", he should not be included...
The day was warm and calm, as witnessed by the River Wye.
We crossed the old railway bridge across the Wye...
...here are Mervyn and Lorraine striding out...
...and headed up the steep hillside.
After that climb we appreciated a rest!
I'm sure you can think of a caption for this one!
Stepping out again up the hill. At the top we could glimpse the river on either side of us, being at the top of the the "neck" of the huge meander next to which Tintern is situated.
Our walk then took us on the actual Offa's Dyke embankment, which was also clearly a popular area for badgers to make their homes.
Our endeavours up hill and over uneven ground were rewarded with this wonderful view...
...from a meadow of wild flowers.
John on gate monitor duties.
Meanwhile,
David acquired a new pair of walking boots...
Our next stop was the HAPPA horse and pony rescue centre in Brockweir, and they kindly let us in to see the animals. Here Chris is conversing with the 29-year-old Logan, who is virtually blind and loves a bit of attention.
But when I gave Chris the camera to snap me stroking Logan's nose, Logan decided to rub his head repeatedly up and down my front!!!!
Our walk took us back across the river, over Brockweir bridge, and we then headed along to old railway line back towards Tintern.
We passed through the old station, not stopping for even an ice cream.
We then met Geoffrey of Monmouth - but he reminded me of someone else... what do you think?
The path took us past St Michael's church...
...and back to the Wye Valley Hotel, where friends and family greeted our return, and joined us for...
...a well-earned drink. Cheers!
On behalf of everyone, many thanks to Dilys and John for organising this annual memorial walk to Angela Ford. It was good to have David and his family with us again this year. I'll let you know how much we raised for Lukaemia Research once the final figure is in. And thanks to everyone for putting up with my camera - I hope I haven't posted anything you didn't want to see!
