Churches

St Cadoc's
St Cadoc's is the parish church for Glynneath (SA11 5RE), but it began life as the private chapel of the nearby Williams family of Aberpergwm Estate. As such it is a good example of a Welsh Gentry chapel from the Georgian period, with simple architecture. Evidence from Saxon's map of Glamorgan 1567 and the ancient name of the surrounding area as Cae Capel (Chapel Field) indicate that it was the site of Christian worship, prior to the current building, which is dated around 1810.
St David's
St David's Church is on Neath Rd (SA11 4AN) between Resolven and Melin Court. Come off the Resolven Roundabout on the A465 and drive through the village. There is a sharp turn to the right in the village centre and you pass the church hall opposite the Lunch Box Shop. Keep going through the village and the church is on your right. There are no parking facilities here. We are currently undertaking a project to prevent water coming into the church and are repair the interior and exterior walls
St Mary
St Mary's church is on Church Crescent, Blaengwrach (SA11 5SL). At the Mc Donald's Roundabout on the A465, take the exit for Cwmgwrach and at the mini-rounabout turn left. Turn right and then immediately left, avoiding going up the steep hill of Empire Avenue. The church is round the corner and there is parking for a number of cars. St Mary's is an historic part of our community, and following repairs and renovation, it was re-opened in September 2008. Since then it functions as a community hall as well as a place of worship. If you would like to see the building, please contact the vicar or parish office. There has been a church on this site for 400 years since a local land owner, Gerorge Williams petitioned the Bishop to permit construction of a church in the village. Until that time, the residents were supposed to walk over the mountian to the church in Glyncorrwg. St Mary's church was originally known as Y Capel Fach and has undergone complete renovation on two other ocassions during it's history. As part of the work in 2007, the interior was upgraded and historic wall monuments were conserved and restored. Prior to the project these monuments were illegible, but now their inscriptions add to our understanding of our local history.
