Building Work on our Churches

Our buildings are places of worship and important points of contact in the community. However, being historic in nature it can be a challenge to keep them in good condition and develop them further.

St Cadoc's East Window contains stained glass from Steinfeld Abbey in Germany.  They were installed in the Abbey around 1530 and depict abbots being presented by saints, including, St Barbara, St George and the Virgin and Child.  They were removed under Napoleon's order in 1802 to raise money for the war against England and eventually were bought by British gentry and installed in their collections.  The glass was restored by Stuart adn Hutchinson Glass from North Wales and looks lovely, with much more details than before the conservation work.

Conservators have also restored the wooden communion rail back to its original dimension and we have a new hymn book cupboard and new carpet.  By Easter there will be a new lighting system in the church t highlight the restored features and give a nice ambient lighting for worship.  After Easter the main building work will commence to prevent water coming into the chancel area and to remove cmenet render from the walls and to lime wash them.  Almost all of the funding for this project has been found but if you would like to make a donation, please contact the parish office on 01629 722512

St David's, Resolven is undergoing essential repairs to the exterior walls to prevent water from penetrating.  Cement render on the inside and outside walls is being removed and then on the outside the wall is being repointed.  The stone work is in good condition and the finished walls look very good.  There are lots of fudnraising events and a scheme to become a FRIEND OF ST DAVID'S; if you would like to contribute to this repair work, please contact the office on 01639 722512.
