Being a Disciple of Jesus

Following Jesus is about growing in faith, listening to God's calling in our life, and enjoying his love. We know that you can be a Christian and not go to church, but our experience is that we best grow as disciples within the context of the local church. In our parish, we try and encourage all to discover new things of God, to experience him afresh and to share this with others. We encourage everyone to have a lifestyle at home which incorporates some times of listening to God, prayer and Bible study, and to see their life throughout each day as the place of 'being church' and responding in care to circumstances. There are regular activities and courses to stimulate new interest in our spiritual life: parish retreats; we run the diocesan LIVING FAITH course which looks at aspects of biblical and ethical thinking; and put on training for practical aspects of prayer ministry. We have found that many of the church members have valued the ALPHA course, which explores the Christian Faith, and also many people who were not church-goers have grown in faith. At each of our Sunday and mid-week services we aim to engage faith and life together in our sermons.
