LENT / Y GARAWYS 2010

LENT

We have decided to follow this year’s ‘York Lent Course’ entitled When I Survey .... Christ’s cross and ours.

There is a study booklet (£2.99) and also a CD which we will use at our Bible Study Group meetings. Participants on the CD include Revd. John Bell (Iona Community), Canon Dr Christina Baxter (Principal St John’s College, Nottingham), Rev Dr John Morris, (former President of the Methodist Conference and Head of BBC Religious Broadcasting, General Sir Richard Dannatt (Chief of the General Staff and Professional Head of the British Army until 2009).

We will be meeting on alternate Wednesdays and Thursdays to enable those who wish to at least attend some of the group meetings and so that we don’t clash with existing activities such as Odyssey Group and Mothers’ Union in Action.  We will meet at the Rectory for warmth and comfort. We will start at 7.30pm and finish promptly at 9pm.

Dates therefore are:

Wednesday Feb 17 – Ash Wednesday Bilingual Eucharist in Church at 10.30am and Church Hall at 7.30p.m.

Thursday Feb. 25

Wednesday Mar. 3

Thursday Mar. 11

The Gospel in the Willows: Forty Meditations Inspired by The Wind in the Willows.  This beautiful book, which may be used as a daily devotional through Lent or any other period of the year, reopens Kenneth Grahame’s classic children’s novel The Wind in the Willows for a new audience. Combining a daily reading from the literary classic with a gospel passage, a short meditation by Leslie Francis and a prayer, The Gospel in the Willows takes us on a journey through the Christian life, exploring themes such as The Call, Shaking the Dust, Finding Acceptance, Divided Loyalties, Real Repentance, Facing Temptation, The Lost Son and Accepting Release. The much-loved characters of Mole, Rat and Toad become the perfect allegory for the grand adventure of faith, from our terrifying first steps into and beyond the riverbank, to the challenges, temptations and triumphs that await us as we journey into the world, with Jesus by our side.
