In the Church grounds

Walking towards the Grade Two listed arched entrance notice the grave enclosed with cast iron railings with a memorial column to Robert Williams “Trebor Mai” ( I am Robert) written in reverse. He was famous writer of “ englynion”.

Nearer the gate on the left hand side is the horizontal gravestone of David Roberts “Merchant and Harper” who died in Liverpool in 1779 with a Harp in the stone.

Set in the churchyard wall looking to the left of the arch is a white stone now badly weathered which is a carving of the Lamb and Flag. According to tradition this came from the Hospice of St John of Jerusalm at Ysbyty Ifan.

Outside the Church grounds

Next to the gate opposite the Almshouses stands the Parish Clerk’s House. This was built by the “Rev’d Howell Holland Edwards, late Rector of Llanrwst for the residence of the Parish Clerk and vested in the Trustees for which the Clerk is to pay the Trustees , while he occupies it, a Rent of Fifty two shillings a year, and in proportion for any less period than a year.” The first half yearly payment was duly paid on March 25 1867 by Edward Jones. This house is occupied by the Verger in present time.
