Rogation Sunday
For the second year we travelled by train to celebrate Rogation Sunday at Castle Caereinion.
Sunday 9th May was, it's good to report, not as cold or wet as 17th May 2009! This year a party from St Mary's and St John's Pool Quay, travelled by the last Welshpool & Llanfair steam train of the day up to Castle Caereinion to celebrate Rogation Sunday and to thank God for the beauty and richness of his creation.
Our service began on the platform of Castle station, then, after we'd walked up to the village, continued in the churchyard of St Garmon's - St Garmon's people joined us, of course, for both of these.
Joan and Richard at the Red Lion were once again our very hospitable hosts - they'd laid on a great tea - and then we travelled back down to Welshpool by car or in Mr & Mrs Lewis' mini bus.
For 2011 we are intending to switch from railway to canal, and travel to Pool Quay for our service, which will be on 29th May. Churches Together in Welshpool have decided that this should be one of our quarterly ecumenical services - more details nearer the time.
