The Hanmer War Memorial

Inscriptions and Description

The Hanmer War Memorial

The war memorial is located in the south border wall of the churchyard, facing outwards across the grass flat, the road, and a small field onto Hanmer mere.

Remembrance starts here at 10:30am on Remembrance Sunday and continues in Church with the reading of the names of the fallen and the minute silence.

The sandstone memorial is a Gilbert Scott design. The base of the memorial forms a stone seat, set in the churchyard wall, and enclosed by a small paved area and a chain fence with wooden posts. It rises through stepped stages holding the inscriptions, to a slender column surmounted by a figure of the crucified Christ Jesus. It is topped by a small roof.
