Church Life

The approach and application of the congregation (Church Family), towards the Church and the Community.

The congregation at Sinan makes everyone welcome at their services, visitors and in particular families with children. A play box and books are available for the younger ones who find the Sermon a "challenge of concentration". Holidaymakers who stay at the local farm Caravan site become regular visiting members of the church. At the end of the service tea and coffee are served, a good opportunity to exchange news and make friends.

The church has changed significantly over the last few years, (described in detail in the History section), with a view to making the church more flexible and welcoming. The new padded seats are a big improvement on the replaced pews, regarding comfort. The layout and furniture provides a very flexible arrangement, which allows the Church to be used for many different purposes:

Taize service (All Saints Day) - the Altar is moved to the centre of the Church with the seats formed in a circle.

Agape (Maundy Thursday) - tables are installed in the Church, where a meal is an integral part of this special Eucharist Service

Coffee Mornings (Macmillan Nurses, see events) - tables and chairs are arranged to provide comfortable and hospitable surroundings.

Lunches (Harvest and Bring and Share) - tressle tables are arranged to provide a seated eating facility.

The church is small, and while this provides a wonderful atmosphere for services, it does limit the opportunities for special events. This provided a challenge to the "Church Family", which was overcome three years ago by investing in a large Marquee which effectively doubles the floor area of the Church. The Marquee is erected for the Spring Fete in the Church grounds and houses most of the stalls, the Church being used for the Floral displays and where refreshments are served.

The Church Family are very active and innovative, and most of the changes to the Church and grounds have been carried out by the members. One recent project which involved landscaping of the church grounds is decribed in detail in Church Developments.
