vocation
All Christians are called by God. He calls us to be disciples of Jesus and to continue his mission in the world. All Christians have a part to play in the ministry of the church.
We share in the life of Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit by:
- Proclaiming the Good News of the Kingdom
- Nurturing and teaching new believers
- Responding to human need in loving service
- Seeking to transform unjust structures in society
- Safeguarding creation and sustaining and renewing the earth
The grass-cutting team keep the churchyard looking welcoming There are ministries undertaken by disciples in daily life as a natural, normal response to God’s love—what we do and the way we do it:
as a parent, as a carer…
in the neighbourhood - working in a community shop or day centre…Citizen’s Advice… local and national politics…
by giving time to listen…to volunteer…
through seeing daily work as discipleship…
There are some ministries undertaken on behalf of the church, where we are asked because of particular gifts or skills:
visiting the sick at home and in hospital; school governor; good neighbour scheme; baptism preparation and follow up; debt advice centre; PCC member; church warden; treasurer; administrator; prayer group leader; study group leader; giving coordinator; Reader; communication and publicity; hospitality; leading intercessions; lay eucharistic assistant; youth services and youth work….
Usually these ministries will be for an agreed length of time and training will be given.
If you believe that God may be calling someone you know, pray for them and talk with them.
If you feel that God may be calling you in a particular way, listen and talk to God, to those who know you well and to your parish priest or spiritual director.
If you would like help to discern your gifts and skills or with training, contact: Canon Ambrose Mason, Director of Ministry
