TUESDAY

Begin by taking a minute or so to become aware of God’s presence with you wherever you are.  It may help to think of him sitting opposite you in the form of Jesus, or as a pillar of light, or as filling the very air which you breathe.

Then pray this prayer, - and try to do so, really meaning what you say:

Come, Holy Spirit, bless our hearts and minds, that we may desire nothing apart from your will, knowing that in your will is our true peace.  Amen.

Read the following verses very slowly, letting the words “seep into your heart” and noticing anything that seems significant or stands out for you.

They went to a place called Gethsemane; and Jesus said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” … And he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and keep awake.”  And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.  He said, “Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you want.”

[Mark14:32,34-36]

Close with the prayer:

Father of light, from whom every good gift comes,
pour out your Holy Spirit upon our parish with the power of a mighty wind,
and by the flame of your wisdom, open the horizons of our minds,
that we may seek only your will.
Help us to bear witness to your love in all that we do and think and say,
that, through us, others may come to know you and your beloved Son, Jesus.
This we ask in his name.
Amen.
