Sunday
Begin by taking a minute or so to become aware of God’s presence with you wherever you are. It may help to think of him sitting opposite you in the form of Jesus, or as a pillar of light, or as filling the very air which you breathe.
Then pray this prayer, - and try to do so, really meaning what you say:
Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts and minds this day. Guide us in all that we do, that we may always bear witness to your truth. Amen.
Read the following verses very slowly, letting the words “seep into your heart” and noticing anything that seems significant or stands out for you.
Jesus said: “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you for ever. This is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, because he abides with you, and he will be in you. … The Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything, and remind you of all that I have said to you.”
[John 14:15-17,26]
Close with the prayer:
Father of light,
from whom every good gift comes,
pour out your Holy Spirit upon our parish with the power of a mighty wind,
and by the flame of your wisdom, open the horizons of our minds,
that we may seek only your will.
Help us to bear witness to your love in all that we do and think and say,
that, through us, others may come to know you and your beloved Son, Jesus.
This we ask in his name.
Amen.
