daily office

It is part of the pattern and discipline of Anglican Worship to join in the daily prayer of the church.

A regular pattern of daily prayer helps ground our life in the deep rhythms of the universe and to ride out the choppy surface waters of everyday busyness.

Jesus grew up taking part in the community worship in the synagogue. The gospels tell how he prayed regularly; he was often up before dawn to spend time praying to his Father - and especially before taking a major decision.

If you can, do join in the daily service in your parish church, or a church near your place of work. But you also participate in the common worship of the church when you pray by yourself or with a small group, whether you use a set form of words (office) or pray in your own words for those listed in a corporate prayer cycle.
