Kathleen Palmer was commissioned as Diocesan President of the Mothers’ Union by the Bishop of Monmouth on February 2nd 2007, along with the new Secretary,Sheila Wells, and the new Treasurer, Pat Jarratt and other Trustees.

Kathleen was born in West London and lived there until she married.  She has worked as a P.A Secretary, and in the voluntary sector as a Church Youth Worker in a large London Parish, and as District Commissioner for Guiding in East London.  After she was widowed, she embarked on full time University Education and was successful in gaining an Honours Degree in Religious Studies and History at Middlesex University.  During those years she brought up two children as a single parent, and at that time discovered the support and value of the Mothers’ Union.

Since her marriage to Canon Terry Palmer in 1999 she has been actively involved in Church life in the Monmouth Diocese, and was appointed Diocesan MU Treasurer, which post she held for the past 6 years.  In addition she has been responsible for “reviving” two branches of MU and has a passion for the renewal and growth of branches throughout the Diocese.  Kathleen has also become heavily involved in every aspect of parish life as the wife of a retired NSM Priest in charge of a large parish on the outskirts of Newport, and continues to work as PCC Secretary, Leader of a new Junior Church and President of a Parent and Toddlers Group.

She is also a proud grand-mother of 5 grandchildren.
