The Diocese of
Monmouth

Dean and Chapter

The Chapter is the governing body of the cathedral. Canons (members of the Chapter) were originally the 'monks' who were attached to a cathedral and led worship in the cathedral and the surrounding churches. Today, most Canons live in their parishes but they have their own seat in the cathedral and, together with the Dean and Archdeacons, they form the Chapter or governing body of the cathedral.

In the Diocese of Monmouth, there are ten Canons. Honorary Canons are not members of the governing body.
