The Lions win thanks in the Highveld

During the rugby tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa their manager, Gerald Davies, and his wife, Cilla, were able to see some of the work of the Highveld diocese.
They visited the informal settlement of Dukatole with Bishop David and Joan Bannerman, and were able to see the projects Revd Marlene Rodda is involved with.
As worshippers in the Monmouth diocese, Mr and Mrs Davies wished to help the work of our link diocese in a tangible way, and through the generosity of friends and the British and Irish Lions Trust, they were able to donate funds to the value of £49,000. This will be used to further the work with those suffering from HIV/AIDs, and to help vulnerable children.
The Lions are very generous in helping others and are involved in many charitable projects, and it is good to know that sport has left such a legacy for the poorer parts of our link diocese.
