Harvest Festival gives Glory to the Saints

the scarecrow

A most notable scarecrow and some enormous pumpkins greeted visitors to the Festival which was opened by the Bishop of Swansea and Brecon, the Rt Revd John Davies.

Inside, heady scents filled every corner of the church which had been festooned with flowers, all arranged with artistic splendour to the theme Glory to the Harvest, Glory to the Saints. So much to see, so much to wonder at.

Raglan Handbell Ringers entertained those who came for a first look at the amazing flower display and the three-day Festival ended with Festal Evensong at which the choir of St John’s-on-the-hill, Chepstow, sang, followed by a Harvest Supper in the Village Hall.

We thank the arrangers, organised by the Newport Floral Society, for their hard work and inspiration, and all who supported us. Money raised was in aid of the Bell Tower repairs.

Confirmation

confirmation group photo

The parish of Michaelston-y-Fedw is not large, and witnessing six members confirm their faith was a moving and joyous occasion. The varied ages of those being confirmed illustrated that a readiness to commit oneself to Jesus Christ can arrive at any age – it is never too late.

A buffet followed the service, the centrepiece of which was a magnificent iced cake, supplied by the mother of one of the candidates, depicting a photograph of the church and the names of all those confirmed.
