A Dream Realised.............
Every playwright dreams of having their words brought to life, and this happened to a talented Sunday Club Leader, Mair De-Gare Pitt on a Saturday in June at St Michael and All Angels Church Hall, Llantarnam. Mair based the storyline for ‘The Embroidery’ on the wartime memories of a relative, Ron Jones. A highlight of the performance was the presence in the audience of Ron, no mean feat for a veteran of 93 years.
The drama unfolds in the Welsh valleys at the home of newly weds Hannah and Jack and then transports the audience through North Africa, war-torn Italy, Auschwitz concentration camp, and culminates in the poignant homecoming.
Following weeks of rehearsal by the newly-formed St Michael's Players Drama Group, friends and parishioners of St Michael's Church were treated to a highly enjoyable and professional performance from the players. Directed by Jenny Hood, the small cast, including vicar Tony, gave some memorable performances.
The evening, also included a small exhibition of forties memorabilia and finished with some musical items and a sing-along led by Monmouth Ladies Choir. The hall was packed to capacity and a merry time was had by all.
