Canon Roger Hewett wins WAG award

The Reverend Canon Roger Hewett, Chair of Blaina Communities First Partnership has become one of the first people in Wales to be honoured by a new Welsh Assembly initiative.

The inaugural Recognising Achievement Reception, which aims to raise people’s pride in Wales’s achievements, was held at Caerphilly Castle. The theme for this year was Helping People in Difficult Situations and Canon Hewett was selected for his work with Blaina Communities First Partnership – he was the only cleric among the recipients.

The Bishop said, ‘I was delighted with the news that one of my priests, Canon Roger Hewett, was among the first recipients of the new Welsh Assembly Government honours. He received the award from the First Minister, the Rt Hon Rhodri Morgan. Canon Hewett would be the first to say that what has been achieved has been teamwork, but it takes a leader with a strong belief in the value of community to gather people together into a team and to forge the partnerships that make things happen. He has done that, and I am proud to have a priest with such vision, skill, determination and love for the people he serves.’
