Blackwood Dinner for Christian Aid
Diners in Blackwood recently found an enjoyable way to raise funds for Christian Aid. On 26 June, St Margaret’s Church Hall was transformed into a fine dining room, where a superb four course dinner with coffee was served by a team of cooks and waiters led by churchwarden Janie Hughes. As well as the delicious meal, diners (who included local MP Don Touhig) were entertained by a quiz, and there was, of course, a raffle. 53 diners attended the charity event, which has been an annual event for some years, and over £560 was raised on the night. Bert Harper-Asbridge, who co-ordinates Christian Aid collections in the Blackwood area, spoke about the growing success of fundraising in churches and chapels in the area, which this year will exceed £6,000.
