Your favourite Bible Stories
Following Archdeacon Peter Woodman’s plea for including more bible stories in our Sunday readings, Jenny Henn from Cwm wrote to tell of her favourite:
Some time ago I saw a painting of The Road to Emmaus. It was a landscape with three small figures, one of whom was wearing a straw hat. The picture made me smile because surely you would recognise the Lord no matter what hat he had on! Or would we?
The story of the Road to Emmaus is my favourite because of its calm and loving atmosphere. The long hot walk, the grief and bewilderment turning to joyful hope when they realised who was with them.
I am getting old and, with those men, I ask “Abide with us for it is toward evening and the day is far spent”.
They knew the Lord Jesus at the breaking of bread and I hope we can all meet him there and in all who are with us today on the Road to Emmaus.
