40th Anniversary Celebration at Caerleon

Canon Arthur EdwardsThe past few weeks have been an exciting and busy period in the life of Canon Arthur Edwards. Not only has he seen the launch of his latest book, Thomas Thomas of Pontypool, Radical Puritan, but he has also celebrated the 40th anniversary of his ordination.

On Sunday 28th June at our Sung Eucharist, in Canon Arthur’s words, ‘the aisles were full of magic in St Cadoc’s Church’. Bishop Dominic preached and the choir of St Cadoc’s was augmented with past members of the choir of St Hilda’s, Griffithstown, the present choirmaster of Griffithstown and the organist at St Mark’s, Newport. The choir sang the Sanctus from the German Mass by Schubert and the Ave Verum by Mozart, chosen because they are two of Canon Arthur’s favourite pieces.

Although a coach-load of regular parishioners were holidaying in Weymouth, the church was full – testimony to Canon Arthur’s ministry and the high regard in which he is held by past and present parishioners.

Greetings were received from fellow members of the clergy, parishioners past and present, and from our link parish of Northmead in the Highveld, where Canon Arthur was remembered in their prayers on this his special day.
